Earth Class Mail names Carr CEO |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Sarah Carr
Earth Class Mail today promoted Sarah Carr to the position of CEO, a move that comes nearly four months after she assumed the role of president and a year after she joined the company as chief operating officer. Carr, who prior to joining Earth Class Mail served as an executive at Print Inc. and Bowne Global, has refocused the company's efforts on small businesses and expanded deals within the postal industry.
The new maneuvers coupled with cost cutting moves are expected to bring Earth Class Mail -- which allows customers to receive postal mail online -- to profitability in the fourth quarter, the company said today.
Carr took over day-to-day duties at the Seattle company from Ron Wiener, who had served as the founding president and CEO. After Wiener moved to the chairman's role, Earth Class Mail operated without a CEO.
Jonathan Roberts, an early investor and board member at Earth Class Mail, said that Carr has shown "exemplary leadership."
"She has not only made strategic changes that will enhance the company's future, but she has also made rapid, effective tactical changes," Roberts said in a statement. "We were very pleased to recognize Sarah's accomplishments by promoting her to CEO."
The new appointment comes a day after Earth Class Mail announced a deal with BankServ to electronically deposit checks received in postal mail to any U.S. bank.
