It's been a busy few days for Keith McCall. The Chief Executive of EnRoute Systems pitched his new startup company last week at the Zino Zillionaire Investment Forum in Seattle, one of six entrepreneurs now in contention for the prize money. And today McCall -- who previously founded Azaleos -- is in San Diego at the DEMOfall conference unveiling the company's ShipIt! Portal.
Shipping logistics software isn't the sexiest of businesses. But McCall doesn't care because it is a very, very large market, one which he thinks is ripe for some innovation.
EnRoute helps customers figure out how to get a package from point A to point B as cost-efficiently as possible, with McCall saying the online subscription service can save between $1.10 and $2.60 per $12 package.
"We help them first understand how they are shipping ...by taking information that they already have and providing them with an immediate snapshot shipping analysis of how they are currently shipping packages around the world," said McCall at last week's Zino forum.
The 12-person company also has signed up five regional package carriers, which cover 38 states and offer businesses the ability to save money on their shipping when compared to UPS, FedEx or the U.S. Postal Service. Customers using EnRoute's product -- which also ties into back-end warehousing systems -- include Cutter & Buck, Theo Chocolate, Zumiez and others
EnRoute raised some cash earlier this year from Keiretsu Forum, Zino Society and others in an oversubscribed round of $750,000.
McCall said the company is now looking for a series B, with some of the money to be used to expand the offerings for Europe, South America and Asia. Competitors include Kewill and other shipping logistics companies.
Asked about exit strategy, McCall noted large online commerce companies as well as transportition firms. But that's not forefront in his mind right now.
"At this point in time, I am focused on building this business as big as it can possibly be," he said.
