Nearly everywhere you turn these days, people are talking about how entrepreneurs will be the ones to resurrect the U.S. economy.
Now, the Kauffman Foundation is looking to harness some of those inspiring entrepreneurial stories through a new Web site called "Build a Stronger America." On the site, Americans are encouraged to join the entrepreneurs' movement and upload one minute video clips of their ideas to solve real world problems.
"As an entrepreneur, YOU are the key to a sustained recovery - to grow the economy, to create jobs, and to revitalize America," reads the message on the recently launched site. Carl Schramm, president and CEO of the Kauffman Foundation, adds in a story on the Huffington Post that the vast majority of jobs during tough times are created by entrepreneurs.
That's a lot of pressure.
But there seems to be a renewed focus on small business creation -- especially following the financial shenanigans that led the country into the economic morass of the past 12 months.
In fact, President Barack Obama -- under the direction of Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke -- today announced plans to set up a new Office of Entrepeneurship and Innovation. Obama even hit on the entrepreneur theme in a speech this week to the United Nations on climate change, saying that "we will unleash the creative power of our best scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs to build a better world."
That prompted The Daily Show's Jon Stewart to joke (at minute 3:15) that we need to "un-Duct tape our scientists."
So, come on, entrepreneurs, it is time to cut off the Duct tape and get things moving.
