Getty Images has made an investment in New York news aggregation service Daylife and formed a partnership to create a new product called "SmartGalleries" that allows online publishers to set up photo gallery pages using Getty's editorial images.
You can get an idea of what these galleries look like and the functionality from this Daylife blog post, which notes that the galleries are available as embeddable widgets or individual pages.
The press release doesn't say how much Seattle-based Getty is investing, but Peter Kafka, citing a regulatory filing, places the deal at $4 million. Total funding in Daylife now stands at about $12 million, he said.
"This partnership will merge Getty Images` world-class content with Daylife`s technology, creating new tools for our media and publishing customers that enable them to curate and publish dynamic rich content easily and seamlessly on their websites in order to maximize traffic and advertising potential," said Getty Images CEO and co-founder, Jonathan Klein in a release.
