Looking for someone to date -- but want to eliminate losers, criminals and crackpots? There's a new app for that.
Intelius, the Bellevue provider of background checks, today is introducing a new iPhone application called Date Check which the company says is like having a "private investigator in your purse."
Users of the app can activate the "Sleaze Detector" to determine whether potential dates have been convicted of drug possession, assault, DUI or other crimes. If that turns out to be OK, the user can move on to the "Net Worth" function which shows whether their suitor owns a home and, if so, how much it is worth.
"Letting a stranger into your life is a huge risk, and in the age of Internet anonymity, a simple online search isn’t enough to tell you everything you need to know," said Intelius co-founder John Arnold. "The Date Check mobile application removes some of the guesswork and gives you the confidence to decide on the spot if continuing the conversation is worth your time.”
You can almost imagine people running to the restroom to make sure their dates are up to snuff. Or, as the company encourages users to do: "Look up before you hook up." The service also allows users to find their date's horoscope and the social networking sites that they are using.
Date Check is first being released in the app store, with Android and Blackberry versions slated for next month. The company is charging $19.95 for a criminal check, and $14.95 for a property and neighborhood report. To find a date's social networking profiles costs $9.95, while traditional people search reports cost $1.95. The full package costs $39.95.
Intelius unveiled the new app today at the DEMOfall conference in San Diego.
