A trio of iPhone apps for toddlers |

Jackson Fish Market, the quirky creator of Web sites such as virtual flower shop They're Beautiful and the online invitation service Invitastic, is now going mobile with three new iPhone applications for toddlers. The apps -- which cost 99 cents each -- are designed to help iPhone-wielding youngsters learn colors, shapes and letters.
"We have lots of parents of small children in our Jackson Fish Market extended family," the company writes in a blog post introducing the applications. "Creating high quality, focused, educational, and entertaining software for toddlers on the iPhone seemed like a noble task (and with an end result that we could use ourselves — and test on our kids)."
I was blown away at a soccer match a few weeks ago when a mom handed her pre-schooler an iPhone, leaving the child to go to town drawing and doodling on the device like the coloring books of yesteryear. Things have certainly changed.
That's the trend that Jackson Fish Market is tapping into with its new Hippo Hooray Series. The games include Honey the Hippo and Raphael the Robin offering encouraging suggestions to kids, teaching them cognitive, language and motor development.
It will be interesting to see where this foray into mobile children's software goes. I have a friend with a one-year-old stopping by in a few minutes, so maybe I'll see what he thinks with the youngest product demo in TechFlash history.
