Redmond's Microvision unveils mini projector, stock soars 14% |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Microvision today announced a pocket-sized projector, a 4.3-ounce device that's designed to allow people to easily share movies, photos and presentations on the go. The SHOW WX, which will sell for about $400 to $500, is being billed as the "world's first laser-based pico projector."
According to the company, the device can deliver "large, colorful, bright and vivid images that are always in focus, regardless of projection distance." And it is designed to easily plug into laptops, mobile phones and other devices so that users can project selected images or videos on a larger screen.
With a battery life of 1.5 hours, the company said that users can watch most feature-length movies on one charge. It is also small enough "for those impromptu, must-share moments."
Microvision said it has already signed distribution deals in Asia and Europe, with product shipments on tap in the coming weeks.
Shares of Redmond-based Microvision gained 14.75 percent on the news, closing at a 52-week high of $4.20.
