Three Wolf Moon shirt, a cult hit on Amazon, seeks book deal
Remember the cheesy Three Wolf Moon t-shirt, which spawned hundreds of comic and over-the-top reviews on Amazon.com? The shirt -- which depicts three wolves howling at the moon -- became an internet sensation, and even made an appearance at Amazon's last shareholder meeting. Now comes word that the makers of that t-shirt are seeking to capitalize on its viral appeal with a book deal.
"We have a book proposal in circulation," said Caroline Greeven, a Los Angeles literary agent who is working with The Mountain, the New Hampshire company behind the Three Wolf Moon t-shirt. Greeven declined to elaborate, though LA Weekly reports the title of the proposed book is "Sheep in Wolves Clothing" and includes chapters like "The Wolf Shirt and Baldness" and "The Wolf Shirt and Your Love Life."
At last count, the t-shirt has generated more than 1,400 customer reviews on Amazon (Sample: "Fits my girthy frame, has wolves on it, attracts women" and "Unfortunately, I already had this picture tattooed on my chest"). Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was so taken with the Three Wolf Moon phenomenon he talked at length about the t-shirt and its popularity at the company's May shareholder meeting (even tossing one of the shirts into the crowd). The shirt is still a bestseller for Amazon, currently ranked No. 5 in the Amazon apparel store.
Amazon maintains an oddities community, with other strange products that have sparked humorous customer reviews.
I'm not sure what Three Wolf Moon's prospects are as a book, though a collection of the t-shirt's best customer reviews might be amusing. If no publishers bite, maybe they can self-publish a digital version on the Kindle. Could an iPhone app be far behind?
