Amazon.com is putting more money into Engine Yard, a startup that helps developers using the open-source Ruby on Rails web application framework. Amazon, which was among Engine Yard's early backers, joined a group of investors that just pumped $19 million in additional funding into the company.
The new investment brings San Francisco-based Engine Yard's total funding to more than $37 million. The company said it would use the money to build enterprise-level services and develop new open-source projects. Engine Yard works closely with Amazon Web Services, Amazon's cloud-computing unit.
Amie Street, a digital music startup backed by Amazon, also scored $3.9 million in new funding, reports indicate, though it was not immediately clear if Amazon took part in the new round.
