Big Fish Games lands new execs |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Big Fish Games is bulking up in the executive offices. The Seattle game company -- which last year scored $83 million in funding -- today is announcing that former aQuantive chief financial officer Michael Vernon and former Fox Interactive Media chief information officer Ian Hurlock-Jones are joining the team.
Separately, the company also announced a small restructuring this morning in one division as it focuses efforts on its social gaming strategy.
Vernon -- who held the CFO title at aQuantive from 2000 to 2006 -- will serve as chief financial officer. He most recently held the CFO role at Zumobi and Global Market Insite.

Hurlock-Jones -- who has been appointed CIO -- is the former CIO at Fox Interactive Media and Buy.com. At Fox, he oversaw technical operations at properties such as IGN and Photobucket. The CIO position is a new one at Big Fish, while Vernon replaces Glenn Walcott who is leaving to pursue new career opportunities.
Both Vernon and Hurlock-Jones will report to Big Fish Games CEO Jeremy Lewis.

“I am delighted that we have the benefit of their stewardship in finance and technology, two areas critical to us as we scale towards our vision," said Lewis in a statement.
Founded in 2002 by former RealNetworks employee Paul Thelen, Big Fish has grown into a massive distributor of casual games. Last year, the company reported revenue of $85 million, a 70 percent increase over the previous year.
Lewis declined to comment on how many people were let go during the restructuring today. The company now employs more than 400 people, including a new facility that was announced in Cork, Ireland earlier this year.
