Gist unveils iPhone app: Managing contacts on the go |

Just last month, Gist unveiled a new online service that allows users to peruse emails, Tweets, news stories and other information. Now, the Seattle startup is bringing that power to iPhone users.
Gist today is introducing a free app, one that the company says is ideal for anyone who "lives and dies by their ability to gather, disseminate, and act on large amounts of information." The iPhone app shows relevant information about key contacts, which means a sales professional could do a quick check of a client just before popping into a meeting.
If there's a new blog post, Tweet or Facebook message about the client's company or the client himself, the sales professional would have that new information right at his or her fingertips.
The app also allows users to sort news about all of those attending a meeting, and even provides a map of the meeting location. In order to use the app, one must be registered with the Gist service.
UPDATE: Reviewers are pretty much giving the app a thumbs up. Even though it occasionally categorizes information incorrectly, Mashable says that Gist's mobile information organizer is "impressive. Mashable also notes that Gist could be the "the most convenient way to track down an email thread, attachment, or quick contact fact on a mobile phone."
Meanwhile, CNET's Josh Lowensohn notes the nifty email alert function for meeting attendees and the easy-to-use service for browsing attachments from those attending the meeting. He said those two functions alone could probably break into their own apps. But Lowensohn also points out slow load times as well as the inability to sync completely with Apple's email and calendar functions, something Lowensohn admits is "entirely Apple's fault."
