More good news for technology industry, this time from Google |

Following a series of positive reports about the PC industry this week, Google posted strong quarterly results today -- suggesting that the search advertising market may be coming back, as well. Google reported profits of nearly $1.64 billion for the quarter, a 27 percent increase that beat Wall Street's expectations.
"While there is a lot of uncertainty about the pace of economic recovery, we believe the worst of the recession is behind us and now feel confident about investing heavily in our future," said Eric Schmidt, Google's chief executive, in a news release announcing the results.
Earlier in the week, a quarterly report from Intel and shipment numbers from IDC and Gartner made it clear that the PC market is returning to growth mode.
Combined, the developments could be good news for Microsoft, which relies heavily on PC sales and needs the online advertising market to rebound to open the door for growth in its Internet businesses. Microsoft reports earnings the morning of Oct. 23, the day after the company launches Windows 7.
