Walt Mossberg
The Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg gives Windows 7 a big thumbs up in his latest column, a significant endorsement from the country's leading tech reviewer.
In a video on the All Things D blog, Mossberg says that the new operating system is the "best version of Windows ever" and is "highly competitive" with Apple's Mac OS.
Mossberg -- who tested Windows 7 on 11 computers over several months -- also said the new operating system could put the "whole Vista business behind Microsoft and make the Windows PC more pleasant to use and more efficient to use."
However, he said, the product does have a few glitches. And he noted -- like Apple's Snow Leopard -- is "more evolutionary, than revolutionary."
I am not sure if Mossberg's reviews can move markets. But Microsoft's stock is up two percent today, trading up 67 cents to $25.77.
Here's a teaser from the column:
Windows 7 introduces real advances in organizing your programs and files, arranging your taskbar and desktop, and quickly viewing and launching the page or document you want, when you want it. It also has cool built-in touch-screen features. It removes a lot of clutter. And it mostly banishes Vista’s main flaws—sluggishness; incompatibility with third-party software and hardware; heavy hardware requirements; and constant, annoying security warnings.
