Remember Seattle's latest innovation -- the automatic pancake making machine? Turns out it's more than just a novelty. ChefStack, the company that produces the contraptions, just pulled in $2 million in funding from unidentified local investors to market the product to coffee shops, cafeterias and hotels.
The $3,500 machine spits out flapjacks -- without the need for a pan or griddle -- at a rate of 200 per hour. It can be used for everything from "traditional restaurant-style, three pancake stacks with butter and maple syrup, to mini-pancake 'shooters' with eggs and meat, to fruit-filled pancake turnovers."
ChefStack was founded earlier this year by longtime food executive R.J. Selfridge, who spent 10 years as head of operations at Tully’s Coffee. The machines have been sold in Australia and New Zealand.
