Clearwire bolsters exec team |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
The management overhaul at Clearwire continues as the Kirkland company looks to expand its broadband wireless network nationwide.
David Maquera, a former U.S. Navy Aviator who most recently served as an executive at Cricket/Communications/Leap Wireless, has joined as vice president and chief strategy officer. The company also appointed Thomas Enraght-Moony to the position of senior vice president and general manager of CLEAR Online, overseeing advertising, marketing and online sales. Enraght-Moony is the former CEO of Match.com, and before that he led e-commerce efforts at AT&T Wireless.
In addition, the company announced that Chief Marketing Officer Atish Gude is leaving the company.
Clearwire has been mixing up its management ranks over the past eight months, moves that come after William Morrow took the CEO reins. In August, the company brought on Erick Prusch -- the former CEO of Borland Software -- as CFO.
Recent departures have include Chief Operating Officer Perry Satterlee; Chief Accounting Officer Robert DeLucia; Chief Strategy Officer Scott Richardson; and Chief Financial Officer David Sach.
It is interesting that some of the new executives -- including Prusch and Enraght-Moony-- had CEO experience. That could be a good thing -- given that they've got experience running complex organizations -- or a bad thing -- if they meddle too much or second guess Morrow's decisions. Nonetheless, it is looking like Clearwire is developing a pretty deep bench as it looks to bring its wireless network to new markets.
Next month, Clearwire plans to launch its 4G WiMax network in Seattle. By the end of this year, it plans to be in 25 markets with a coverage area that could reach over 30 million people.
