There's been a lot of startup activity in recent months around the idea of helping companies and individuals back up their data online. And now a Seattle company has reeled in more cash to attack that problem.
Datacastle -- led by former Qpass executive Ron Faith --has raised an additional $3 million in equity financing, according to a SEC filing. That followed a $5.3 million round earlier this year.
In addition to Faith, the company's management team includes former Microsofties Alex Laskos, Barry Preppernau and Gary Sumner. The company's chairman is former venture capitalist Alex Knight. The company is backed by CM Capital of Australia.
Datacastle says that its PC backup and data protection service works automatically in the background even when a machine is offline, which means computer users don't have to initiate the process. The service also allows individuals to schedule backups as frequently as one minute intervals.
That helps companies and individuals even recover data if a laptop is lost or stolen, the company says.
Other companies focusing on online backups and disaster recovery in the Seattle area include Symform, Doyenz and Decho.
