Grisham: book price war is a 'disaster in the long term'

John Grisham's "Ford County" is one of ten books at the center of an ecommerce price war between retailers Amazon.com, Wal-Mart and Target. Today, Grisham, who's hitting the airwaves to promote the book on its release day, slammed the heavy discounting, calling it a "disaster in the long-term" for the book publishing industry and aspiring authors. His comments start about 2:45 into the interview.

"Ford County" was down in the $9 range on Amazon, Wal-Mart and Target during its pre-order phase. Now, follow its official release, it's selling for $11.99 on Amazon and Walmart.com, and $15 on Target.com. That's still far below the list price of $24.
