It's going to get even harder for the small, entrepreneurial iPhone app developer to have his or her creation discovered in Apple's App store. Apple today announced that developers have created more than 100,000 apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Apple didn't give specific number of app downloads, only saying that it was "well over two billion."
Of course, quantity doesn't matter so much as quality. But with more than 100,000 apps now populating the App store, there are certainly some hidden gems in the mix. (TechFlash Flashback: "List: Our Favorite iPhone Apps")
The 100,000 milestone also is another sign that Microsoft has some serious catching up to do when it comes to mobile computing. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer admitted so much in statements last month, telling business leaders that "there's still a lot of innovation to come in the phone form factor. We're in the game."
