The Cheezburger Network of comedy websites, which includes I Can Has Cheezburger, Fail Blog, and Engrish Funny, kept its hold on the number 1 slot in the Seattle Startup Index for the month of October, followed by Zillow, Picnik, BuddyTV and Wetpaint. The list of web startups, compiled by Marcelo Calbucci, added another 17 companies, and now totals 373.
Calbucci noted that there hasn't been much movement in the Top 10, "just a few companies shuffling their position," but he noted more interesting developments farther down the list, including PopShops, which moved 10 positions to #26, and Jambool, which jumped 30 positions to #36.
The list has drawn some criticism in the past. Here's John's standard caveat about the index from a past blog post:
The index is a fun exercise which rank some startup companies based on their rankings in Compete.com and Alexa. It is not meant to indicate future success, which is determined by more important metrics such as revenue growth and profits.
