Seattle Mariners unveil online service to split season tickets |
Follow the ups and downs of a new Seattle startup in a series of behind-the-scenes posts by its founders.
Want season tickets to the 2010 Seattle Mariners, but don't think you can make all 81 home games? Seattle's Major League Baseball franchise has a new online service just for you. Today, the Mariners introduced an online matchmaking service called "Split Season Ticket" that allows fans to share a season ticket package with friends, family or co-workers. Here's the even cooler part.
Once an account is established and specific individuals are selected for each group, they can then participate in an online draft to select what games they most prefer.
If that gets too complicated, fans also can choose to have the computer randomly select games based on priority levels.
So, if a Boston transplant now residing in Seattle wants to see his Red Sox face the Mariners, he could set a priority for that series and have a better chance of securing the tickets.
Even better, once the tickets are assigned, fans can then sync the games they have secured with their online calendar. More details here.
In addition to full season tickets, the service also is available for packages of 20 and 40 games.
This seems like a really good idea, and it could help bolster sales for the Mariners at a time when it faces increasing competition from the Seattle Sounders.
The Sounders -- as we've reported in the past -- also are experimenting with news ways of matching like-minded fans in certain sections of Qwest Field.
