Sony Ericsson will close an office in the Seattle area as part of a larger restructuring rippling through the No. 4 maker of cellular phones. It is unclear how many people will lose their jobs in Seattle, and we have an email into the company's PR department to find out more details.
The Triangle Business Journal reports that the company also plans to close a facility in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina next year that will result in about 400 people losing their jobs. As a result, Sony Ericsson is moving its North American headquarters to Atlanta and a research and development operation to Redwood Shores, Calif.
Offices in San Diego, Miami, India and Sweden also will be closed.
The entire restructuring will result in about 2,000 layoffs. The company currently employs 9,900 people.
