Everyone knows that the media landscape is undergoing a radical transformation. And, as part of that upheaval, new media brands are arising.
That's one way to interpret a new list out this week from the publisher of The Belltown Dispatch blog, who created a ranking of the Top 75 Seattle Media Web sites. Alex Mayer created the list by tracking the performance data from Alexa, Google, Quantcast, Websiteoutlook.com and other factors.
Even though some new media brands rose the ranks -- including TechFlash which debuted on the list at #8 and MyBallard.com which rose 26 slots to #13 -- the top of the list is still controlled by large media outlets such as The Seattle Times, SeattlePI.com, TheStranger, KomoNews.com and King5.com.
Those sites made up the top five. The ranking also attempts to track sites by daily page views and daily ad revenue, though not sure how they calculated that exactly.
Mayer said he created the list as a way to keep track of the Web-only news scene in Seattle as well as a way to help him read and keep track of news sites. In a post on the topic, Mayer said a number of new online news sites have "come out of nowhere to climb the charts."
Some of those include Publicola.net which debuted at #29, Seattle Post Globe which came in at #31 and Wallyhood.org which finished at #32.
