From Amazon.com
Some fans of rapper Lil Wayne received an early Christmas present. About 500 people who pre-ordered Wayne's new album "Rebirth" on Amazon.com got it in the mail starting in mid-December, more than a month ahead of its official release date, Billboard reports. Sounds like a pretty major shipping snafu. Amazon spokesman Craig Berman said the company has no comment.
As Billboard notes, the album's release date has been pushed back multiple times, and most recently was moved from Dec. 21 to Feb 1 by the Universal Motown label and Universal Music Group Distribution. According to the report, a million "Rebirth" CDs were manufactured and a third of them shipped to retailers before the latest release schedule change.
The Amazon product page for "Rebirth" says: "A release data has not yet been set for this title." I've asked Lil Wayne's label for comment.
Lil Wayne is a force in the music industry. His previous album "Tha Carter III," which debuted last summer, "was the last record to hit 1 million units in a debut week," Billboard reports. The rapper pleaded guilty to gun possession in October and has a sentencing hearing in February, according to reports.
