Charter Communications emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this week. But there's a familiar face who will no longer be in the cable company's board room: Paul Allen. The Microsoft co-founder -- who previously held the chairman title and whose investment firm once held a majority interest in the company -- is no longer serving as chairman or a board member, Vulcan spokesman David Postman confirmed via email.
Questions about Allen's role in the restructured company were raised today by Multichnannel News. Allen's lack of a board seat is not health related, Postman tells TechFlash. (The software billionaire recently disclosed that he was being treated for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma).
Even though Allen won't have a seat at the table, his investment firm will be well represented. As part of the restructuring,Vulcan has the right to appoint four of the 11 board members. It also retains 35 percent of the voting stock of the company.
Allen also released a statement on Charter's new direction:
"Charter is emerging from this process as a stronger company with a much improved balance sheet that will enable Neil and team to continue to deliver the highest quality video, Internet and telephone services to customers over the long-term. We look forward to working with our fellow board members to support the success of the business.”
