Amazon.com customers donate $475K for Haiti earthquake relief |

Amazon.com put a donation box on its home page Wednesday for victims of the earthquake in Haiti, asking people to give to disaster relief charity Mercy Corps. Now some early numbers are coming in. Portland, Ore.-based Mercy Corps. says in the past two days Amazon has collected $475,000 in donations.
The American Red Cross is also accepting donations using Amazon's online payment technology. I've asked Amazon for more details on its charitable efforts.
Amazon has put donation boxes on its home page during past disasters. The online retailer collected $6.9 million for 9/11 relief in 2001; $15.7 million for south Asia tsunami relief in 2004; $12.4 million for Hurricane Katrina victims in 2005; and $180,000 for Cyclone Nargis relief in Myanmar and and earthquake relief in China in 2008.
