LAS VEGAS -- Will you soon be catching up with Twitter on the commute home? One of the features planned for the next-generation Ford Sync system is integration with mobile phone applications, including Twitter and Pandora, as demonstrated by Ford's Joseph Ross in the video above.
It's one of a series of updates for the Sync system, which is based on Microsoft's underlying automotive technology. Ford also announced a new in-car interface called MyFord Touch that provides a screen in the dashboard. It's scheduled to be available starting with the 2011 Ford Edge and 2011 Lincoln MKX. The integration with mobile apps will also be available as an update for some existing Sync systems.
Also at the show this week, Kia announced its new UVO in-car system, which also uses Microsoft's automotive technology. Among other things, it uses Microsoft voice-recognition technology that lets drivers avoid extraneous commands when giving instructions to the car. Here's a demo video of that technology, which is slated to be available later this year starting in the 2011 Kia Sorrento.
