As someone who likes to sit on the couch with my iPhone -- playing games, checking Twitter, browsing the Internet and reading newspaper apps -- I totally get what Apple is trying to do with the iPad.

But after poring over the news out of San Francisco this morning, I'm feeling torn. Sure, I want one. But even at the low end of the price range, $499, do I really need one enough to justify the purchase?
