Project Natal set for 2010, and Xbox Live Game Room confirmed
LAS VEGAS -- Project Natal will be available this year, in time for the holiday shopping season. And Microsoft is prepping a new service called "Game Room" that will let Xbox Live users create customized virtual arcades where they (and their avatars) can challenge friends online in retro games.
Those tidbits are among the items expected to be announced this evening during Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's Consumer Electronics Show keynote. They leaked this afternoon when Microsoft accidentally posted an interview with Robbie Bach, president of its Entertainment & Devices Division, that had been planned for publication after the announcement.
In reality, neither piece of news is a huge surprise. Project Natal, the motion-sensing control system for the Xbox 360, was widely expected to be released this year. And Microsoft hinted at the possibility of Game Room in a previous customer survey, as noted by Kotaku (which also has screenshots).
