Three Wolf Moon shirt, a cult hit on Amazon, as economic tool? |

Things must be tough in New Hampshire right now. The state is pinning its economic development hopes on a cheesy t-shirt that spawned some comic reviews on Amazon.com. New Hampshire's Division of Economic Development has adopted the Three Wolf Moon t-shirt as its "official" t-shirt — aiming to capture some of the internet buzz sparked by the shirt last year.
In a blog post, a N.H. Division of Economic Development spokesman is quoted as saying:
By capturing the interest of those who follow pop culture trends, we hope that they’ll also check out our other online offerings and discover that New Hampshire is a state that does business differently and embraces the creativity of its many innovative companies.
The idea is that local executives and celebrities will wear the t-shirt "to capitalize on the phenomenon."
Good luck with that.
New Hampshire isn't the only party trying to milk the Three Wolf Moon meme for all its worth. Last fall, The Mountain, the New Hampshire company behind the t-shirt, was seeking a book deal based on the shirt. And there's a Three Wolf Moon iPhone app out there — the HowlGenerator.
The Three Wolf Moon t-shirt was briefly an online sensation last year and has racked up more than 1,600 cheeky reviews (Sample: "Fits my girthy frame, has wolves on it, attracts women"). Jeff Bezos even tossed it out at the Amazon shareholder meeting last year.
But at this point, the joke may be getting a bit past its prime.
