Chart: New era, same uphill climb for Microsoft, Yahoo vs. Google
Microsoft will significantly boost its presence in the search market as it implements its search alliance with Yahoo, following the news this morning that regulators in the U.S. and Europe have cleared the deal.
But even as it adds Yahoo's search queries, and looks to benefit from the resulting critical mass, the Redmond company will still be grappling with a much larger competitor in Google. The gains achieved by Microsoft's Bing search engine in the in recent months have been largely offset by Yahoo's declining share of the market. Here's a look at the before-and-after in the U.S. search market.
