For nearly two decades, the Corum Group has assisted hundreds of technology companies with their M&A plans. Those deals have taken firm to London, Paris, Germany, Brazil and Switzerland. But the Bellevue firm is bolstering its presence in its home region, moving to a larger headquarters in Bothell which newly-appointed president Nat Burgess said offers "more space, a more collaborative environment, and the feeling of a R&D center rather than a law office."
While Corum represented Caligari and iView in their sales to Microsoft, Burgess noted that less than 10 percent of the firm's transactions have been local. The 43-year-old is hoping to change that with the new office, as well as spending more time with local entrepreneurs.
As part of that effort, Corum Group plans to celebrate the opening of its new office with a "M&A Boot Camp" on Thursday afternoon. (Details here).
As we reported yesterday, some industry watchers believe that the tech M&A market will be heating up in 2010. Given that, the timing might be right for the educational boot camp.
"Over 99 percent of tech startups will be acquired," said Burgess, whose firm specializes in deals in the range of $15 million to $30 million. "CEOs need to get educated early on how to build value in their companies, and how to build the relationships that will blossom into M&A events."
The Corum Group employs 30 people. The new office will allow room for growth, as well as support the firm's continued expansion plans in Asia.
