Cozi has raised $5 million in new financing as the Seattle startup continues to look at new ways to get its online scheduling tools into the hands of more families. Cozi founder Robbie Cape confirmed that he had raised new cash from a "strategic investor," though he declined to say who or how the startup plans to use the funds.
Cozi previously raised about $16 million, and its backers have included newspaper giant Gannett Co. and others. The company also has partnerships with food giant Nestle and Meredith Corp., publisher of Better Homes & Gardens.
Cozi has developed a service by which busy families can access shared calendars, shopping lists, photos and more. Users access the service from any Internet-enabled device, allowing families to organize their lives while on the go. It also includes e-mail or text message reminders, so moms or dads don't forget a soccer game or a shopping trip.
As of last summer, Cozi said it had 1.4 million members.
Cape -- who previously spent 12 years at Microsoft -- founded the company in 2005. Cozi's board is led by Visio and Aldus co-founder Jeremy Jaech, who previously led the Seattle online calendar startup Trumba. Jaech now serves as CEO of Verdiem.
Cozi also recently named Mark Goines -- a former senior vice president and general manager of the consumer division at Intuit -- to its board.
Cape said he plans to share more details about the funding and its business later this year.
