Perry Satterlee, who left the chief operating officer position at Kirkland-based Clearwire, has landed in a new role at a neighboring company which also has ties to wireless pioneer and Clearwire chairman Craig McCaw.
Satterlee today was announced as CEO of Recon Dynamics, a Kirkland company which is using signaling technologies to remotely track products and people. The company also announced today that it is acquiring the assets of S5 Wireless, a Sandy, Utah-based company backed by McCaw's Eagle River Partners.
Founded in 2003, S5 raised $11.5 million in a second round of funding from Eagle River and others in 2006. However, there hasn't been too many announcements since then, with the press release section of the company's Web site sitting dormant for more than two years.
As part of today's announcement, Eagle River has injected new capital into Recon.
“I believe Recon Dynamics is well positioned to meet the customer demand for enhanced tracking and monitoring solutions," said Satterlee in a statement. "The new applications and services to be provided by Recon Dynamics have the potential to pay for themselves, many times over, by bringing companies increased productivity, enhanced safety, improved efficiency, greater awareness of location and performance, and a reduction in lost assets.”
This isn't the only Seattle area startup with ties to the McCaw mafia that's trying to help companies keep better track of their assets. Locktronix, which is backed by Hawkeye Investments, the venture firm of former McCaw Cellular and Nextel Partners executive John Chapple, uses location sensors to pinpoint the exact location of products as they move through the supply chain.
As part of the asset acquisition of S5, Recon has named appointed S5's Jim Baker as chief technology officer and Ken Arneson as vice president of business development.
