MOD Systems is bolstering its management team, announcing new executives to head up finance, sales, marketing and content licensing. The most noteworthy hire is Robert DeLucia, the former chief accounting officer at Clearwire who assisted with financial and accounting integration following the merger between Clearwire with Sprint Nextel. DeLucia is taking on the CFO role, replacing interim CFO Rich Barber who recently left MOD.
Meanwhile, MOD also has hired Larry Smith as senior vice president of marketing and sales; Dick Sowa as senior vice president of content licensing and David Sharp as vice president of operations. Smith is the former COO of Archos Inc. and Sharp is the former COO at Seattle-based Mercent. Sowa, who is leading MOD's new Los Angeles office, previously worked in the entertainment industry for Sonic Solutions and InterActual Technologies.
Those are all new positions at the MOD, signaling a new direction for a company which has encountered legal headwinds and management turmoil in the past year. MOD is pursuing legal action against former CEO Mark Phillips, alleging that he misappropriated $1.3 million in funds.
“This new executive talent is exactly what we need to push forward an aggressive strategy this year to build out our platform with retail, entertainment and device partners," said CEO Anthony Bay in a statement.
MOD, which employs 50 people, is developing a kiosk technology that allows consumers to download digital movies to SD cards for playback on televisions at home. The company is backed by NCR and Toshiba. More on how the system works in this TechFlash video from CES.
