Hipcricket, a Kirkland company which helps media companies deliver mobile advertising campaigns, has named Doug Stovall as vice president of sales. He previously worked at Acuity Mobile, Merkle and TeleCommunications Systems.
Zumobi, the Seattle mobile application developer, continues to roll out new iPhone applications with established brands. Today, it launch a free application built for Motor Trend, which includes breaking automotive news, photos and reviews. The app is being sponsored by Mercedes-Benz.
Not many companies hit a billion of anything. That's why today's announcement from Picnik is significant. The Seattle online photo editing service said that one billion photos have been edited using the service. To celebrate, the company is making its premium service free to consumers on Wednesday and giving the person who edited the one billionth image free access for life.

WatchGuard Technologies, a maker of network security products, used to have to report its full financial results as a publicly-traded company. But after getting bought out by a private equity firm, it no longer has to disclose those details. Nonetheless, the Seattle company today said that it posted record revenues for 2009 and it was profitable in each quarter. It didn't offer specific numbers.
The online gift registry site, Wishpot, has established new sites in the United Kingdom and Italy.
NetMotion Wireless of Seattle said that the Sheriff's Department in Mobile County, Alabama has adopted its mobile software to keep deputies connected to information while in the field. Among other things, the technology allows deputies to access photos of missing persons, research property details, access the jail management system and monitorvideo-surveillance cameras from their cars.
