PopCap Games has experienced success before on the iPhone. But nothing quite like this. The Seattle company today said that it has sold more than 300,000 copies of its Plants vs. Zombies application -- and it has done so in fewer than 10 days.
PopCap says that's a record for the iPhone, and the $2.99 game has now grossed more than $1 million. Given Apple's customary 30 percent cut, that means PopCap has netted more than $700,000.
Plants vs. Zombies -- which encourages game players to battle pole-vaulters, snorkelers, Zumboni drivers and more than 20 other zombies -- quickly became the top paid app in the App Store shortly after its launch. It now ranks third. Interestingly, PopCap's other big title -- Bejeweled 2 -- currently ranks 10th.
PopCap now has created three hit games for the iPhone, all of which have reached the number one ranking at some point in time. (The other is Peggle).
Who said iPhone app developers couldn't make any money on their creations?
