Seattle startup TeachStreet is expanding in a new direction today, announcing for the first time two specialized Web sites to help people prepare for graduate school admissions examinations around the GMAT and GRE. TeachStreet founder Dave Schappell -- who is launching the new sites today at the LeadsCon conference in Las Vegas -- said the new offering is a continuation of the company's strategy of "connecting students with great schools."
"We think these vertical experience are far better than competitive offerings, and will help us to garner significantly more traffic in these spaces," he said.
The new sites allow students to build individual study plans around a specific test date. Students also can access free practice test questions and browse a directory of test preparation providers and books. The GMAT site also includes an online forum powered by GMAT Club.
Founded in 2007, TeachStreet helps students and teachers connect around various activities -- from yoga to guitar. The site features more than 150,000 classes in Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, Denver, New York, Philadelphia and Portland. The company -- which recently added pro memberships and an online payment service -- is backed by Madrona Venture Group.
