AppStoreHQ looks to help Android users find new apps
Google's mobile operating system, Android, certainly is gaining some buzz as a potential rival to the iPhone. But while some of the advertising talks about everything that "Droid does," there's one thing that Seattle entrepreneur Chris DeVore doesn't think it really does that well. And that's allow people to easily find new applications on the Web, a la the Apple App Store.
AppStoreHQ is looking to fill a void in the marketplace with a new offering being announced today that allows users to browse by category and keywords for any app in the Android Market.
Currently, the only way Android users can find new apps, according to DeVore, is via the handset. That makes it hard for consumers to learn about new Android apps, and for journalists to provides links to the apps that they write about.
"We're huge Android fans here at AppStoreHQ, and there are thousands of great apps out there for Android users, but they're surprisingly hard to find," said DeVore, whose company already operates a large directory of iPhone apps.
AppStoreHQ's directory includes nearly 20,000 Android apps, broken into categories such as sports, social networking, travel and finance. It also allows users to search by price, rating and release date, viewing images of the apps, reviews and other information.
DeVore is one of the partners at Founder's Co-op, a Seattle angel investment firm.
