Sigl
Venture capitalist Susan Sigl has been named the new CEO of the Washington Technology Industry Association, one of the largest technology groups in the state. Sigl is well known in the Seattle startup and venture capital communities, having previously served as co-founder and general partner at Seapoint Ventures. At Seapoint, Sigl worked with a number of startups in the mobile sector, serving as interim CFO at SnapIn Software, Zumobi and Ground Truth.
But her career has not always been rooted in tech. She started out at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Houston, Texas, later moving on to executive positions at oil & gas and commercial real estate development companies. Sigl also was one of the first employees at Tathum Pipeline, serving as the company's treasurer during its $200 million sale to Texas Oil & Gas.
“I’m honored to assume the leadership of an organization with such a rich history and strong future,” said Sigl in a statement. “The WTIA plays an important role in creating a supportive business climate for technology companies of all shapes and sizes here in Washington."
Seapoint Ventures co-founder Tom Huseby said that Sigl is the perfect for the job, calling her "remarkably well networked" in the tech community.
"Susan has a remarkable ability to get the big principal picture and motivate people at the detail level," said Huseby. "It is hard to find someone who can do both."
Sigl will continue to be involved with Seapoint, reviewing the existing portfolio companies on a monthly basis. The fund is no longer making new investments, and Huseby said it was just a matter of time before Sigl moved on to a new full time role. In her new position at the WTIA, he added that everyone in the state's tech community will benefit from her knowledge and expertise.
Sigl replaces Ken Myer, who announced that he'd be leaving the CEO role at the end of this month in order to return to private industry.
Founded in 1984, the WTIA is one of the oldest and largest technology organizations in the state with more than 1,000 member companies. Full release here.
