Microsoft sends flowers, card for Internet Explorer 6 funeral
Say this for Microsoft's Internet Explorer team, they've got a sense of humor. The people who make the Redmond company's web browser sent flowers and a card to the widely publicized "funeral" being held today to mark the passing of one of their own, Internet Explorer 6.
"Thanks for the good times IE6," the card reads. "See you all @ MIX when we show a little piece of IE Heaven."
While it might seem unusual for a company to take part in a veiled celebration of the death of one of its products, the fact is that Microsoft is just as happy as anyone else to see IE6 riding into the sunset, and perhaps more. The company has urged people and companies to move to newer, more secure versions of the browser.
The IE6 funeral was organized by Aten Design Group of Denver after Google announced that it would be phasing out support for the 2001-era browser in Google Sites, Google Docs and YouTube.
The "MIX" part of the Microsoft card was a reference to the company's upcoming MIX conference in Las Vegas, where Microsoft is slated to show new details of its upcoming Internet Explorer 9 browser.
