Amazon.com's graphic novel glitch: what happened? |

Amazon.com hasn't explained the weekend glitch that resulted in deep discounts on many graphic novels and sparked a brief buying frenzy. Now Publishers Weekly reports Amazon has removed the buy button on graphic novels from Marvel, Dark Horse, IDW and other publishers distributed by a company called Diamond Comic Distributors. The report says the removal of the buy buttons is "apparently an effort to correct the glitch that caused the wild discounting of graphic novels."
Separately, Bleeding Cool, which has been tracking the Amazon episode, says some surprising graphic novel discounts are now popping up on the Barnes & Noble website.
Amazon, Diamond, and Barnes & Noble didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. The graphic novels that no longer have a buy button on Amazon can still be purchased through third party sellers on the Amazon website.
Publishers Weekly, citing an unnamed source, reports that Amazon "has been forced to temporarily take down buy buttons for all titles supplied by Diamond in order to correct the problem" and that Amazon "has to do an audit to figure out which customers got books and at what prices."
The report says neither Amazon nor Diamond has commented but notes "there has been speculation that the glitch was caused by Diamond."
According to Bleeding Cool and other sites, Amazon canceled the orders of some people who bought graphic novels during the glitch-induced discounts but is providing them with a $25 Amazon credit.
