T-Mobile USA is recording more than 1.6 million Wi-Fi calls each month, which it says is a milestone for the industry. "While some are just now jumping onto the Wi-Fi calling bandwagon, we've long offered our customers the freedom to make calls from almost anywhere while keeping costs down," said Femi Lakeru, vice president of business sales at T-Mobile USA, in a statement. The T-Mobile press release comes as Research in Motion announced a new Mobile Voice System, which allows users of BlackBerry devices to make calls over Wi-Fi Networks.
Seattle startup ExtraHop Networks has formed an alliance with F5 Networks, an interesting partnership since ExtraHop's founders, Jesse Rothstein and Raja Mukerji, previously worked in engineering at F5. As part of today's deal, the companies said they will jointly market their products and collaborate on sales efforts. ExtraHop also announced a new service today called Network Timeout, which the company describes as a "community-driven effort that aims to improve access to network and application-analysis solutions." Founded in 2007, ExtraHop is backed by Madrona Venture Group, Netscape co-founder Marc Andreessen and others.
Speaking of F5, the Seattle company today introduced a new series of products and an update to its DevCentral community site. The announcements were made at the Interop conference in Las Vegas. Shares of F5 were down slightly in trading this morning, but the stock is near its 52-week high of $72.60.
Matt Bell has been named as vice president of worldwide sales and field operations for Skytap, a Seattle startup that allows companies to test hardware and software systems in the cloud. Bell most recently led sales for Azaleos, and before that he worked at SourceLabs, RealNetworks and Plumtree Software. Backed by Ignition Partners and Madrona Venture Group, Skytap raised $7 million last year.
Seattle-based NetMotion Wireless -- a 9-year-old spinoff from WRQ which is majority owned by Liberty Partners -- has canceled plans for an initial public offering on the Toronto Stock exchange, reports Dow Jones.
