Amazon.com is marching ahead with its multi-device strategy for Kindle. The company said it will release a free Kindle application for mobile phones running on Google's Android software this summer. Amazon already has Kindle apps for the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, PC, Mac, and BlackBerry.
It's another sign that Amazon is going at the electronic book business in two ways: developing its own lineup of electronic readers, and ensuring that people can browse, buy and read its Kindle books on a range of smartphones and other devices.
Amazon's work with Google Android comes as Google itself moves ahead with plans to start selling electronic books as early as next month.

The blog drops a hint about games going into the next Kindle, but says it's unclear when the new version will come out.
