The blogosphere went nuts today after word spread that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer might be a scheduled speaker at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference next month in San Francisco. But, as it turns out, Ballmer won't be heading on to his longtime nemesis' home turf after all.
Microsoft put an end to the speculation in a hilarious, rumor-busting Tweet today. It read: "Steve Ballmer not speaking at Apple Dev. Conf. Nor appearing on Dancing with the Stars. Nor riding in the Belmont. Just FYI."
The rumors about Ballmer's involvement started earlier today after stock analyst Trip Chowdhry noted that seven minutes of the June 7 keynote by Steve Jobs had been set aside for Microsoft to talk about Visual Studio 2010.
There's still a possibility that another Microsoft exec may be on stage, with some wondering if that job might go to Bob Muglia.
At the time of this posting, the Ballmer rumor was still at the top of the popular TechMeme news aggregation site.
