Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, University of Washington computer science professor Ed Lazowska and other political and technology leaders were on hand today to welcome Facebook and their new engineering team to Seattle. McGinn even took some time to discuss how he used Facebook and other social media strategies to win the Seattle mayoral race last year.
Facebook engineers Greg Badros and Ari Steinberg also spoke about the new office.
Afterwards, Badros -- a University of Washington grad who now serves as director of engineering at Facebook -- told me that they've yet to determine where the new office will be located. However, they are currently looking at options in downtown Seattle.
Here's Steinberg, who will lead the new office, talking about why Facebook chose Seattle.
Facebook announced the new engineering office for Seattle -- the company's first outside of Palo Alto -- earlier this month. Initially, the office will house up to 30 engineers.
