Seattle startup receives inaugural angel financing award
Seattle-based Modumetal has been named the inaugural winner of the Luis Villalobos Award, a new award created by the Angel Capital Assocation to honor the most innovative angel-backed startup. The award is named after Luis Villalobos, the founder of Tech Coast Angels who died at the age of 70 last year in California.
Modumetal co-founder Christina Lomasney accepted the award at a ceremony in San Francisco. The company is developing a new type of nano-laminated material, which is stronger and lighter than steel. The technology has potential applications in transportation, energy, defense and aerospace industries.
The 4-year-old startup is backed by Second Avenue Partners, Washington Research Foundation and The Alliance of Angels.
“Between the people, the product, and their approach, I think Modumetal is one of the most creative and innovative companies in my twenty-five years of investing,” said Dan Rosen, Alliance of Angel chair, in a release.
