Bing upgrades 'social' search, adds top Facebook shared links
Microsoft is creating a new section of search results on its Bing search engine that will aggregate tweets, Twitter trends and the top links being shared at any given moment by users of Facebook, according to a demo shown a few moments ago at the SMX Advanced search conference in Seattle.
Yusuf Mehdi, a Microsoft senior vice president, said a beta of the new Bing Social service is set to go live this morning. He noted in his demo that Bing's presentation of the Facebook shared links won't identify the individual Facebook users who are doing the sharing, but it will provide a unique glimpse into the things that users of the social network consider worth sharing.
Mehdi said he expects the feature to help differentiate Bing competitively.
As part of Mehdi's demo, the new Bing Social section was shown as a tab that people would be able to browse to after searching for a particular term.
