Pearl Chan
The Cheezburger Network has hired a new bean counter. The fast-growing humor network, known for its cadre of sites such as Fail Blog, GraphJam and There I Fixed It, has appointed Pearl Chan as chief financial officer.
Chan joins Cheezburger from CFO Selections where she provided accounting services to a number of Seattle area startups, most notably the online photo editing service Picnik which was acquired by Google earlier this year. Prior to CFO Selections, Chan worked in financial positions at Isilon Systems and Metawave Communications. She also previously served as the corporate controller of Sierra On-Line and CFO at PhyCom.
The appointment of an experienced chief financial officer speaks to the maturity of Cheezburger, a profitable company which now boasts more than 40 employees and 16 million visitors per month. New CFOs also occasionally signal that an acquisition may be coming, though we have no inside knowledge that Cheezburger CEO Ben Huh is looking to take that path at this time.
In a statement, Huh welcomed Chan to the team.
“We’ve achieved tremendous success in three short years and we understand that without solid financials, there is no business,” Huh said.. “Pearl is one of the industry’s top talents and we’re excited about the financial and operational insights she brings in running a successful Internet company.”
Chan's isn't the only new executive kicking around the company's Queen Ann lair. Last fall, the company named online advertising veteran Todd Sawicki as chief revenue officer.
Obviously, given those two appointments, Cheezburger is getting even more serious about making money.
