Bloomberg News is reporting tonight that Sony is close to a deal to offer a premium service from Hulu on the PlayStation 3, bringing the popular online television and movie service to the video-game console.
It's not completely clear from the report, but it looks like the PS3-Hulu deal could be in addition to a similar agreement that has been expected between Hulu and Microsoft for the Xbox 360, not an exclusive PS3-Hulu agreement. So owners of both consoles might end up walking away happy with this -- assuming they're willing to pay the estimated $9.95 a month for the premium Hulu service.
Bloomberg, citing people with knowledge of the talks, reports that an agreement could be announced between Hulu and Sony as early as next week. Bloomberg also cites a previous Reuters report about talks between Microsoft and Hulu. Seattle-based tech blogger Andru Edwards of GearLive has also reported that Microsoft and Hulu have been in talks, although the deal wasn't announced at E3 as expected.
Microsoft did bolster the Xbox 360's video offerings at the big video-game convention last week by announcing plans to integrate ESPN sports content into the Xbox Live online service.
Reuters previously reported that Hulu was also contemplating bringing its service to the iPad, but the Bloomberg story makes no mention of that possibility.
