Big Fish Games has launched a new game for the iPhone and iPad called "Big City Adventure: San Francisco," an application that the company says is the first game for Apple's mobile platforms to incorporate multiplayer voice chat. The voice chat technology is being provided by Z2 Live, a Seattle startup that raised $3 million from Madrona Venture Group last year.
The object of the game is to locate hidden objects scattered throughout the virtual San Francisco, collecting postcards along the way that contain tidbits about the historic California city. The postcards can be sent virtually to other friends on Facebook, creating a viral marketing loop for the game. Along the way, friends who are playing the game can chat with one another as they look for the items hidden at San Franciso sites.
The game -- available in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese -- sells for $4.99 on the iPhone and $6.99 on the iPad.
“Big City Adventure: San Francisco turns mobile gaming into a social experience using iPhone and iPad’s built-in networks – WiFi, 3G and EDGE,” said Patrick Wylie, vice president of Big Fish Games Studios, in a release. “Friends can chat while playing against each other from wherever they are in the world." The game was originally designed for the PC by Jolly Bear Games.
